The Calves

I signed up to pioneer this month and as I was getting ready to go, hubby calls me and says — I need your help getting this calf back in.
I grab some grain and head out the door. That little fella is halfway down the drive and hubby goes whizzzzzzing by on the four wheeler — and in a flash the calf is gone.
He soon whips around and heads back toward the house, jumps off the four wheeler, and closes the far gate.
Well. There is just too much fun going on on the other side of the fence — because here comes the rest. Soon they are all out, trampling everything in the yard. And guess where they ended up? Yep. Right in the middle of my cleavers patch.
I was saving that one for me. It was getting nice and tall and soon to be picked.
I mean, really. We just put them in new pasture yesterday and I am not sure how they were able to tell the grass was greener on the other side — but after running around the yard and stepping on everything, I got one to stop running and smell the grain.
We train on grain. Sure helps with control. Most of the time.
Forty minutes later they are back in their new pasture and I will be waiting weeks again for my cleavers to grow.
Have a happy day.
